Pakistan 2005

Based on the decision of the interdepartmental crisis team, the Czech Republic sent a special aircraft to Pakistan, which was affected by the earthquake. The rescue unit of the Czech Republic, consisting of a 14-member team of doctors and paramedics (Traumateam ČR, medical staff of the Army of the Czech Republic) and a 9-member group of rescuers from the department of the Ministry of the Interior, who will provide logistical support to the doctors on site, traveled to Islamabad on board. In disaster areas, the rescue unit is able to operate independently for 5 days.

Czech unit primary: 23 members (14-member medical team, 9-member fire-rescue team)
Site of action: town of Rawala-Kot, approx. 80 km from Islamabad; the town of 60,000 inhabitants, situated at a plateau, 1,800 meters above sea level, was heavily damaged
Main tasks: medical treatment of injured people in a field hospital
Departure: 12 October 2005 from Prague 13 October 2005 (1:30 a.m. of Prague time) to Islamabad
Transport: TU 154 aircraft of the Czech Army
Accommodation: in tents
Meals: from own supplies for 5 days
Prolonging of the mission in Pakistan, stock replenishment and partial alternate of unit members
Departure: 18 October 2005 from Prague to Islamabad

Operating time of the Czech unit was prolonged from 5 to 16 days. Czech side in cooperation with WHO provided to Pakistan side material humanitarian assistance as follows: tents, equipment of a field hospital, sanitary material and remaining logistics supplies. The Czech unit executed 36 surgeries and 872 ambulatory treatments. USAR team members provided logistical support to the field hospital and communication with local and international authorities.
