Cynology in IRS

One of the tasks of the FRS CR is to provide effective assistance in emergency situations, which include rescue of persons in rubble of collapsed buildings.

Rescue cynology is a cynological branch whose mission is to train a dog handler with a dog to find missing persons in rubble, in open terrain, avalanches, under water, etc. using the dog's olfactory abilities. The handler and the dog, who carry out training in the field of rescue cynology, form an inseparable cynological pair. When the handler is indisposed, the dog is unusable, when the dog is indisposed, the handler is unusable.

After the earthquake in Turkey in 1999, it became clear that the FRS CR would have to deal with the idea of close cooperation with volunteer cynologists. Until then, volunteer cynologists united in various organizations, such as the Association of rescue brigades of cynologists and other dog handlers, cooperated mainly with the Main Office of the CP and the training bases of the Czech Army.

Today, with regard to its specificity, rescue cynology as one of the priorities within the IRS, is mainly used by drawing the resources from other bodies of the IRS, which actively deal with rescue cynology, or by using the status of personal and material help.
